Devon Welch

Devon Welch is a soulful, genre-blurring singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist hailing from the Kāpiti Coast, New Zealand. Drawing inspiration from funk, soul, blues and hip‑hop, he’s carved a distinctive sound that reflects both upbeat grooves and deep emotional storytelling. Growing up in Paraparaumu, he began playing guitar at 13, honing his craft in bands and local gigs before pursuing music full-time alongside jobs like truck driving.

He’s released several singles and the digital EP Journey to Freedom (2021), featuring tracks like “Freedom”, “Hindsight (Morgan’s Song)” and “Infinity and Beyond” that explore themes of loss, healing, resilience, and personal growth. His music often stems from profound life experiences—events that shape his lyrical depth, especially evident in the emotionally raw Hindsight (Morgan’s Song).

Devon’s also an active live performer, touring the Tāmaki Makaurau scene and festivals like Waiheke Jazz Festival and Tremolo, and playing venues across Wellington and Kāpiti. He’s notable for turning his music into tools for mental health and community connection, for example, he appeared on the “Beyond the Surface” podcast to candidly discuss grief, creativity, and overcoming adversity.
